Mandeville's Going Green

Casey Coated Danson is a Canyon resident and the mother of two children with a strong sense of stewardship for the Earth. In 1966 Ms. Danson established Global Possibilities as a national solar/renewable energy advocate to promote the use of solar energy in the built environment as a viable and natural alternative to fossil fuels. Now she's helping our community.

In each of our Newsletters for the next several months, Ms. Danson will be making contributions to help raise awareness of the environmental issues facing us today which will have prolonged impact on our futures, and that of our children. She will offer simple conservation solutions to everyday situations. Her suggestions can be used by young and old alike.

June 09 Tips from Casey:

1.) Change some light bulbs to compact fluorescents (CFL) OR LED'S

2.) Install ceiling fans in home or office to reduce the use of air conditioners.

3.) Use the sun to dry clothes.

4.) Stop eating beef (cut back on methane) or try buffalo.

5.) Stop buying disposables like paper towels and use washable cloth towels and napkins.

2009 PROJECTS IN MANDEVILLE CANYON AND ITS RIDGES

MCA uses every dollar collected to pay operating expenses first.  Then dues are allocated to improvement projects.
Project season has started and bids are being accepted and reviewed for several improvements that will benefit the public and our community. This year there will be more projects throughout our community because of your dues support.
-       2500-2600 Block of Mandeville -Stream bed restoration. More paths and split rails. New landscaping too.
-       The horse and walking paths south of Westridge Road on Mandeville Canyon's west side will get a refresher due to the generosity from the horse owners who use the paths. Tree limbs will be cut back and over growth cleared. Repairs will be made to the wide and gently curving decomposed granite paths.
-       Lower Westridge safety is our #1 Priority - Guardrails will continue to get painted to provide better visibility, especially at night, and safer conditions for pedestrians and bicyclists.  We hope to get the rails painted on Banyan too!
-          Brush Clearance - Improved visibility near Westridge and Correa Drive.
-          Potholes to be Repaired! - We're tired of waiting for the City.  Look for your MCA to begin making patches soon.

- Bulletin Board Corner - An improved landscaping overhaul is in a planning stage. Overgrowth, including dead trees and rats, will be eliminated. A bee hive will be removed. Drought-resistant and sustainable plants (indigenous to our community) will be used to set a positive community example for all our homeowners on the need to conserve water without giving up our desires for colorful and attractive landscaping

The Bill Goldenberg Brentwood Youth House

The Brentwood Youth House, is a school based YMCA located on the grounds of Brentwood Science Magnet Elementary School. It is a community where children in kindergarten through 8th grade can participate in a variety of stimulating programs and activities during the after school hours. Two programs are offered: a recreation center program, which offers supervised homework and play time, and enrichment programs.

Currently, the Westside Family YMCA is researching the possibility of opening a Preschool Program at the Bill Goldenberg Brentwood Youth House.  We are currently surveying the Brentwood community to see if there is a need for such program.  Please pass this link below to families that you know of in the Brentwood community that may be interested in this program.  We would like surveys to be completed by June 16th.  Thank you for your help.
