INTERESTED TO KNOW WHAT WE DID IN 2007?

In 2007 MCA created the Block Captain Program - a concept from many years past.  Our Block Captains will serve as volunteer lieutenants on the streets.  They will assist in problems, pass along useful information and help communicate homeowner issues to MCA.

"Friends of Mandeville Canyon" was formed to acknowledge the generosity of Canyon homeowners who pay $250.00 or more to support our Canyon Initiatives and projects.  Each of our "friends" is personally thanked at the Annual President's Reception.

                                        2007 PROJECTS

  • Sunset-Mandeville Project Completed & Landscaped

  • Three New Stop Signs Installed

  • 2500-2600 Blks of Mandeville Canyon - Safe passage - MCA crews cut back overgrowth on the street.  More work is needed.

  • Chalon Road General Clean-up - MCA street crews cut back overgrown brush that impairs visibility and creates safety hazards.

  • 20000 Block of Mandeville Canyon People's Path Improvement -

  • Mini Park at Oakmont and MCR - Award-winning landscape architects C & K Landscape Design have volunteered to be involved.

  • Holiday Lights Program - Bigger and better.  The Canyon was "sparkling".  27 generous homeowners volunteered their electricity to keep the lights going.  MCA's commitment: "Where there are split rail fences, there will be lights."

  • Lower Westridge Road and Westridge Bridge Clean- up Projects.

2007 COMMUNICATION ENHANCEMENTS

2007 ISSUES

  • Frequent Interaction with CD-11 - Your Board works on a continual basis on community issues with Councilman Rosendahl's office and City agencies to communicate the views of the community regarding enforcement of building codes, speeding issues, and other City planning and zoning ordinances to address safety issues and other issues of concern within our community.  Topics were discussed including the proposed 15,000 square foot home to be located on a hillside off Mango Way, the repair of the DWP Westridge Pumping Station which has leaked excess water onto Westridge Road for years, taking down the locked gates on the private passage from Mandeville Canyon to Rockingham Avenue, open stream bed ordinances, and parking codes in relation to food trucks.

  • Greater Brentwood Community Participation - MCA was voted a permanent seat on the Brentwood Community Council.

  • Sunday Sojourns- President Kathleen Durbin and other Board Members made frequent home visits on Sunday afternoons knocking on doors, meeting the neighbors, and listening to your suggestions and questions.

  • Community Support of Coalition for Veteran's Lands.

MINI PARK AT OAKMONT  IS GETTING A FACE LIFT SOON

Want to play chess away from home? One of the tables at Oakmont has a chess board built into the table. MCA has dedicated a park bench to long- time activist Nita Rosenfeld who dedicated more than 40 years to the preservation of our canyon. The first phase to install the outdoor furniture is completed!

Keep you eyes open for new landscaping next Spring. Watch your canyon dues at work.

ENCROACHMENTS: TOGETHER WE CAN PRESERVE AND ENHANCE OUR CANYON AND RIDGE

The city periodically undertakes an enforcement effort to notify homeowners whose vegetation, trees, hedges etc. obstruct safe passage for pedestrians or impair motorists’ and cyclists’ visibility as they travel along Mandeville Canyon, Chalon and Westridge Roads.  Also subject to notification are homeowners who have large rocks along the road which obstruct safe passage and could be hazardous to fire trucks when emergency parking is required.

We encourage you to remedy this in a timely fashion to avoid a ‘notice to comply’ from the City.

For assistance contact us at: news@MandevilleCanyonAssociation.com.
We will contact you to provide assistance.

MANDEVILLE CANYON COMMUNITY HANDBOOK

The revised handbook is completed and has been given to all dues paying members, new homeowners, and hardship cases.  In the Handbook you will find a new list of services and vendors, advertisers, stories and updated "important" phone numbers.  There is also a new called: "Being a Good Neighbor".

If you have paid your dues and have not received a Handbook please let us know at:

 The People's Path Today

MANDEVILLE CANYON - SOMETHING WORTH PRESERVING

A substantial amount of the dues you pay to the MCA each year goes to maintain the preservation of the Canyon. For the past several years our volunteer board and other community activists have worked to beautify and make safer passage for our residents and guests.  These projects include the People’s Path with its split rail fencing, Entrance Holiday Lights, the Bulletin Board.

MANGO WAY PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT

MCA has provided assistance and guidance to the homeowners above, adjacent and below this massive proposed development site. We are involved to insure that safety is the first priority. Safety exit in the event of a natural disaster, erosion, water run off, and grading and geological issues need to be explored and addressed. The protection of our natural environment is also of concern and the maintenance of wildlife corridors of high importance.  Also, building in conformity of our neighborhood must be considered. Our sister associations have joined this effort as it could eventually impact the character of our Canyon and ridges.

 LOWER WESTRIDGE SAFETY PROJECT

Lower Westridge Road neighbors are meeting to address excessive speeds, drivers unaware of curves, overgrown brushes, and other factors that have an impact on their safety.  They are working together to make safer passage not only for our motorists, but all neighbors, pedestrians, and bicyclists who enjoy our Canyon.  The LADOT will be conducting a study to address their concerns.  There are many things being examined such as stop signs, re-stripping of the road, sidewalks to DG paths, guardrails, bike paths, Digital speed signs, and bright "home-made" style "SLOW DOWN" signs.

On a continuing basis it is important for homeowners whose properties abut Westridge to keep their brushes cut back to allow better visibility on the road.  Don't wait for your Block Captain to knock on your door if you have overgrown brush.  Don't wait for an accident to be a good neighbor.  Check the frontage of your properties on Westridge.  CLEAN IT UP.
