Mandeville's Going Green

Join landscape architects Cassy & Kirk Aoyagi on a nature hike Saturday, January 9th.

Cassy and Kirk are hosting the hike and will be discussing and presenting information on the following:

* Become familiar with wild edibles and their uses
* Learn which plants perform best in the dry season
* See plants that produce bountiful foliage on rainfall alone
* Understand which natives can be used to replace thirsty foliage
* Enjoy fabulous views and the company of other hiking and native enthusiasts

Cassy grew up in our Mandeville community and operates a sustainable landscaping firm. www.formlainc.com She has been very generous with her time and designing talents to assist our community. She helped with the design and selection of water-resistant plants at the Bulletin Board corner of Mandeville and Westridge.

City Requires our Assistance in Rock Removal from City Parkways

As a safety precaution and to insure the accessibility of emergency responders into our Canyon, MCA volunteers will be contacting everyone who has large rocks placed on their public-right-of way parkways. The rocks will unavoidably serve to prevent fire trucks access to our Canyon in the event of an evacuation and other emergency situations. In their place, spilt rail fencing, D.G paths, or light landscaping are viable solutions to help prevent illegal parking of service trucks or Canyon visitors who might park on your parkways. Mandeville Canyon is a No Parking street even though sometimes folks do park on the parkways.

MCA is developing a program to assist homeowners in constructing DG walkways and the details of the new program will be presented at the Annual Meeting

If you are interested in receiving assistance to remove your rocks please contact us at:

Crime Report
The most prevalent crime on the Westside remains car break-ins. While we have been relatively safe here in Mandeville Canyon, there have been dozens of car break-ins on the Westside of LA over the past few months. Always remove personal items from your car, especially electronic equipment including lap tops and cell phones, and always lock your doors.

SMILE!!!
On Sunday, January 10th, a group of MCA volunteers will be out taking photographs of our homeowners for our Annual Meeting video presentation. This is the special opening act your Board creates to get you excited about being part of such a great community. This year we are celebrating the young and the old (and some in-betweeners). We need your photos! If you’ve lived here a long time or a short time, and don't want us to come by to take your photo send a photo of yourself, your family and kids in jpeg format to me at:

kathleen.durbin@mandevillecanyonassociation.com

Be part of our story. Tell us one of two things about yourself. Tell us how long you’ve lived here or anything you want us to know. We need lots of pictures of kids!

We'll be out between 10:00A.M. and 2:00 P.M. Drop me an email and say when would be convenient to come by.

The Holiday Lights Program

The Annual Holiday Lights Program is the favorite program of all MCA activities. It brings good cheer and welcomes each of us home and all of our visitors to the Canyon every evening from late November to mid-January.

Many, many thanks go to the dozens of homeowners who generously allow the use of their electricity for the enjoyment of all homeowners and visitors through the season. And, thanks too to all of our other homeowners who hang wreaths, string lights and decorations to commemorate the season in their own design for the holidays. We are a unique community in all of Los Angeles to have such a festive and warm program that highlights our beautiful roads, walkways, and abundant natural environment.

Special thanks to the Brentwood Hills Homeowners Association who made a generous contribution to this year’s Annual Holiday Lights Program. Thank you, BHHA. We all appreciate your support.

If you have not made your contribution to the Holiday Lights Program please don’t forget now. Send your donations to MCA c/o Jessica Berman 1782 Westridge Road, LA 90049.

Our Wonderful Bulletin Board Signs

Special Commemoration and thanks to our children who have been busy this year welcoming us home from long days of work and activities. There is not one of us who hasn’t been welcomed the cheerful signs that put smiles on our sometimes weary faces with the knowledge that we are home. Easter, summer vacation, Halloween, Thanksgiving and now the Season of Giving colorful posters have welcomed each if us every day and evening. Thanks kids (and parents) for making our community friendly and truly special.
Grrreat Job!!
