It will air at 24 and 54 minutes after the hour, at various times each day. On our local stations, this is Channel 208.

It should also be available for viewing via Video OnDemand on Time Warner Cable, by going to channel one, and then select these links: “Local” / “In the Community” / “SoCal News” / “Western LA County” / “New Intersection” on the 18th, or soon after.

Budget Bill Preserves LA VA Site

The formal end of a controversial plan to develop the federal Veterans Administration property in West L.A. came recently as President George Bush signed into law a budget bill containing a ban on commercial development of the site.

The ban, inserted into the $550 billion budget bill as part of a legislative agreement reached this past fall, prohibits the sale, exchange, long-term lease or development of the 388-acre site on both sides of Wilshire Boulevard just west of the San Diego (405) Freeway.

"Today's action caps a years-long struggle to protect the VA site of West LA from the kind of development schemes that would have transformed these hallowed grounds into a real estate speculator's dream," L.A. County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky said in response to the bill signing.

The Face Of Mandeville Canyon - Mitch Brody
At a recent Board Meeting, Mitch introduced himself as an “aspiring Block Captain”. That not only brought laughter but a heartfelt welcome to this son of Mandeville, now returned. Mitch calls himself a two-time resident of Mandeville due to the fact that he grew up on the corner of Banyan and Cordelia from the time he was 2 years old until the day he left for UC Berkeley at 17 years old. His parents own the home to this day.

In Mitch’s words: “Some of my fondest memories of my childhood are from my many adventures in the canyon – hiking up the fire trails, walking my dog in Sullivan canyon, biking up Westridge, skateboarding (gasp!) down Banyan, etc.

A little more than a year ago, my wife, Tracy, and I moved from our house in Beverly Hills and bought the a newly constructed home in the 2000 block of Mandeville where we currently live with our 3 kids. Having now lived in both upper Mandeville (Banyan Dr.) and now in lower Mandeville, I maintain that there is no better canyon in which to live in W. Los Angeles. I look forward to serving as a block captain and getting to know my neighbors in the process."

"You make each day a special day.  You know how, by just your being you.  There's only one person in this whole world like you.  And people can like you exactly as you are."
Mr. Rogers from "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood"
