BLOCK CAPTAIN PROGRAM
MCA has successfully begun a grass roots program. This program is aimed at being more responsive to the needs and opinions of our homeowner members.  Our Block Captain/Couple program was initiated in late July with “MCA At Work” Marketing Kits created and disbursed to our new volunteers. The kits contain information about the association and the projects that have been started this year to improve our Canyon and ridges.

Each of the 10 Captains will be meeting their block neighbors in the next several weeks to ask and answer questions. Our association is interested in how we can be more relevant, make meaningful improvements, and maintain the quality of our canyon life that we all value.

Please talk freely to your Captains when they call!

ROCKINGHAM  / MANDEVILLE CANYON FIRE ROAD

MCA is working with Brentwood Hills Association, Brentwood Park Association and Upper Mandeville Canyon Association to explore the possibility of re-opening the easement road between Mandeville Canyon and Rockingham Avenue.  To our understanding, this easement was gated five years ago by the homeowner.

This dirt road had been used by many since the 1950’s.  Residents of Brentwood Park have used the dirt road over the years to access Mandeville Canyon and its mountain trails.

PUBLIC HEARING:

SALE OF VA LAND: 10 ACRES LOCATED AT FEDERAL AND WILSHIRE BLVD.

The Army is moving forward to sell part of the VA land: 10 acres at Wilshire and Federal. Beyond the massive traffic from this project, a very dangerous precedent could be set for the remaining 388 acres of the VA if this sale is permitted.  Show up and voice your opinion. DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN.

Meetings to be at: Army Reserve Center, 1250 Federal Avenue, LA 90025

Tuesday, September 11, 2007, 6 - 8 pm

Wednesday, September 12, 2007, 1 - 3 pm, 6 – 8 pm

The Coalition for Veterans’s Land is a grass roots organization with the support of over 30 HOA’s and groups.  Its goal is to save the Veterans land for Veterans use; not for profit and commercial use.   Thanks to our State Senators, local officials and 300,000 residents opposing the development of a new FBI building, the Coalition was able to defeat the FBI Project.

Sunset and Mandeville:  Left Turn Lane

Finally and almost completed. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled sometime in September.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

It Is interesting to know that this project began 23 years ago when MCA board members sent letters to the city requesting a left turn lane. For the past 7 years several Board members from our three associations have worked with the City to see this project implemented.

We hope that in spite of the inconveniences, you are finding that the traffic flow is vastly improved and the busy intersection safer for all.

CRIME REPORT

There was a report of vandalism in the 2500-2600block of Mandeville during the early morning  hours of Sunday, July 29th.  The perp(s) were striking mailboxes and flower pots with a crow bar or possibly a baseball bat.  Neighbors’ customized mailboxes and personal property were damaged.

According to a neighbor, Palisades Patrol and several police cars responded quickly to investigate the incident.  We will keep you posted.

CATERING TRUCKS:

NEW ORLEANS HAS PLACED TIGHTER RESTRICTIONS: SHOULD WE?

We have had reports of catering trucks wearing out their welcome.  City ordinance clearly identifies time and parking limits for these trucks that navigate our narrow roads with restrictive parking.

Please respond with any experiences you have had, both good and bad. The MCA Board is scheduled to discuss this issue at its next meeting. We would appreciate your comments.  We are looking to establish reasonable guidelines for the truck operators and the residents who require the services of these enterprises while undergoing home remodeling and construction.
